Is Your Pet Having an Emergency?

Recognizing the signs early is critical. Pets often hide pain, so any sudden change in behavior or physical condition should be taken seriously. Common emergency symptoms include:

  • Difficulty breathing or gasping for air
  • Persistent vomiting or diarrhea, especially with blood
  • Unresponsiveness, extreme lethargy, or collapse
  • Seizures or uncontrollable shaking
  • Excessive bleeding, trauma, or suspected broken bones
  • Pale gums, rapid breathing, or weak pulse
  • Sudden swelling or bloating of the abdomen
  • Possible poisoning (ingestion of plants, medications, chemicals, or unknown substances)

If your pet shows any of these signs, call us or bring your pet in IMMEDIATELY

What To Do If My Pet Is Experiencing a Medical Emergency?

When every second counts, follow these steps:

1. Stay Calm & Keep Your Pet Safe

  • Injured pets may panic. Approach slowly and avoid placing your hands near their mouth if they are in distress. Use a towel, blanket, or carrier to safely transport them.

2. Begin Basic First Aid (If Safe)

  • Apply pressure to bleeding wounds.
  • If choking, check the mouth for visible obstructions.
  • Do not induce vomiting unless instructed by a professional.

3. Head to the Closest Emergency Hospital

  • Call us as soon as possible so our team can prepare for your arrival. Bring your pet in immediately—do not wait.

Pet Poisoning Emergencies

If you suspect your pet has ingested something toxic, bring your pet in immediately and call a poison control expert right away. The faster a board-certified toxicologist can determine the correct treatment, the faster our emergency team can administer life-saving care.

Tip: Have details ready: substance name or packaging, amount ingested, time of exposure, and your pet’s symptoms.
